When you search Google for individuals, places, companies, etc. to sell your Old stereo equipment you will come up with a Dozen or so choices or leads. On the internet everyone doesn’t get a trophy…the ads you see over and over again and near the top of every page are not judged on merit. Simply put, they pay more for advertising then the ads further down the page and that’s how it works the further “back”  you go. Ad placement has no connection to performance or quality, as stated they just pay more or put more time into advertising. For example, you do a search…”who buys old stereo in NY?” Or who can I sell my old stereo to, etc. you get the idea. You will see the same websites over and over again because they put more time and money into advertising. Are they better, nicer, pay more money, more personable, courteous? I let you decide. All I can say is have fun, lol.

Basically I test my competitors and I have not picked up much in the way of “what to do.” But I have learned a books worth of ‘what not to do.” For most of us this is not a business, its a passion for electronics, a way to get equipment to use for ourselves, to trade, and of course to sell. But…most stereo guys, ham radio people, and musicians have a true love for what they do even if they do make a few bucks at it. As you can see I have nothing bad to say about my competitors. The majority are very nice people who just do things a little differently then what I do. For example, I come to you with cash. I make a deal with you before we meet up so there are no misunderstandings. Sure, last week a customer was less then honest with me and forgot to tell me his beloved McIntosh equipment was submerged in sea water for a while from the last hurricane. My mistake, I should of asked for pictures since I was aware of some inconsistencies in his story. Never mind the price I quoted him, I didn’t want this corroded, rusted, heap of metal for free. But for the most part I have had 99% success in buying equipment and have met very few dishonest people.

Unlike some competitors I am not demanding and I don’t even test or plug in your equipment. All I ask is that it is cosmetically good and complete. Working condition???? Well, much of what I buy is thirty to sixty years old. But my Fisher 500C works perfect, yes I believe you. I have seen it much more then not, but…and a big butt, lol. Something fifty years old can work today and stop tomorrow. Or it can work another thirty days and stop. With vintage or old working condition is temporary, it’s gonna break. Please believe that, and sooner then later. But that’s cool, that’s what I expect, that’s what’s supposed to happen. Very few things were made to work for two generations. So, I myself buy as is, on a forty year old receiver I expect components to have drifted and knobs to exhibit static and protection circuits to kick in. I buy with a full understanding of that FACT. I am a back yard / garage mechanic and enjoy the challenge of repair. If I fail I have a parts unit. That’s the main difference between cashforstereos.com and many of my competitors. I buy working, non-working, or sometimes working. I honestly don’t care as long as it’s cosmetically good and it’s something I can use, we can do business.

How does the selling thing work? You contact me by e-mail or phone(which is my home # on this site.) I am a nice guy and am easy to talk to. If I am not here my wife picks up and understand\s what I buy. We have been together since the age of 14 so she is aware of what I purchase and what I am interested in. If neither one of us picks up there is an answering machine and I will always return your call within a short time. Either way please have brands and model #’s ready because that Is what I go by. Some people actually call and a say ” I have a stereo.” Ok, that’s like stating I have a car. There are over 100 years of car production, brands, models, sub models, options, etc. All I need is a make and model which is on the face plate or glass or back of virtually every unit made. I don’t collect or buy every brand or model so it’s the most important information I gather from our communication. Brand/make, and type/model. In other words: I have a Pioneer SX-1050 receiver, a Thorens TD-124 turntable, JBL L-100 speakers, etc. You get the idea, the brand and model is plastered on at least two places on your equipment. Front and back. We discuss price if its equipment I can use and come up with a compromise where we are both happy or satisfied. We make a time for me to come buy the equipment. I come with cash, carry the equipment to my car, shake hands and maybe plan to do business again in the future. I have also met people at post offices, restaurants, even police stations to make the transaction. Usually I travel to the persons house which is the easiest for you. I was a trusted professional in my past life so you don’t have to worry about me… Plus I’m the one with the cash in my pocket so I am at risk not you. Anyway, I will travel a reasonable distance for equipment I can use at a fair price. In summary: contact me with what you would like to sell, if it’s something I am interested in we make a deal right over the phone, sometimes I have to look it up,  if the equipment is in good cosmetic condition as stated I come to you with cash and that’s it. And no, I don’t come with a magnifying glass or loupe and examine your equipment, hahahhahaha. Normal wear and marks are expected. What’s not acceptable is water logged, roach motels, missing knobs with broken shafts, missing parts, units shot out of a cannon into a handball court, etc. As far as money I pay 1/3 of average completed ebay auction prices. That’s not asking prices, that’s not people who sell the equipment and list the same thing a half dozen times, lol. it’s 1/3 the median price of actual successfully completed auctions. As previously stated, I am easy to deal with, I’m courteous, I will leave your home the same way I found it or even neater then before. Sometimes I buy the electronics from large wooden consoles. I put everything back the way it was after removing the equipment. Easy deal, no pressure, no stress, and cash for equipment that you will never use again(with few and far between of people who can repair and service it for a reasonable cost.)
