Which do you enjoy more? Coca-Cola or Pepsi? Over the years I have met many audiophiles/stereophiles/experts/etc. who can hear a difference. They claim to be able to hear a difference between various amplifiers, speakers, CD players, etc. I believe many can actually hear changes in fidelity and other audio parameters. Identification of components by sound is a totally different, impossible task. Did you ever read one of the snooty patootie audio mags. I don’t know if they still exist in 2016 but in years gone by there were audio critics and other posers who could hear things no one else could hear. They supposedly could identify a particular amplifier or speaker by sound alone. What is it? Pepsi? Coca-Cola? Then we can throw in a wild card such as Royal Crown. I bet most people couldn’t even identify the correct cola 50% of the time. Well what does cola have to do with audio equipment. I am 57 and my hearing has diminished substantially. I took very good care of myself over the years eating, sleeping, exercise, stress reduction, etc. I can honestly say I am in better then decent shape for my age but…my sight, hearing, reflexes, memory is not what it used to be. Virtually everyone’s ability to hear high frequency diminishes with age. It’s called getting old. Sure there are exceptions, most people don’t even know they are the exceptions. Now looking at these so called audio experts or audiophiles I see men that look fossilized and petrified. I know, that’s only on the outside, their insides and senses are better then new…yeah right. And they still have excellent hearing. I would like to give out free hearing tests, hahahhahaha. You might think I am not such a nice guy…but I am. I just don’t like BS and blatant lies.  I am always willing to bet some $$$ on the good old coke/pepsi test. In fact I am willing to bet most of the experts couldn’t tell a $3,000 component CD player from a Magnavox. Or double down on which the better of the two is just by listening alone. The “experts” will argue that they can tell good from ok just by listening. But…they will never bet on it. Never will they put their money where their mouth is, or I should say ears. Check this out, a glossary of words used by audio aficionados to describe what they are hearing. Purdy funny, no?  http://www.head-fi.org/t/220770/describing-sound-a-glossary

What’s the point of this post? Buy or use what sounds good to you. Better yet, get what looks, sounds, fits your décor, your wife and grand mother, likes the most. Wife approval rating means something, right? There are many sheeple in this world. If you switched the emblems or hood ornaments on a Cadillac and Buick some people would swear their favorite was better then the other. Yes I know the styling is somewhat different. Just being facetious. Follow me? I have actually seen low brows get into bar room brawls over which is better Ford or Chevy. What YOU like is the best, it’s everything…that’s the point. An audio magazine, online forum/blog/or publication can give you a starting point. But they can’t tell you what to like. That’s up to you, your ears, eyes, and brain. Coming soon, articles on Bose electronics, and the various speaker/RCA/Power Cords, Cables.
