Maybe you will, if you offer it at yard sale prices. Why? Everyone thinks they can get ebay price locally without doing the work and taking the risk. Ain’t happening, everything has come around full circle and it’s not the same market as fifteen years ago. Craigslist was once an amazing place, really it was. You could buy and sell virtually anything at garage sale prices without having or visiting a yard sale. Turn the clock and calendar up twelve – fifteen years and “Craigs” looks like the same place online…But it’s NOT. #1 Things such as consumables, clothing, nick naks, etc. can be purchased so cheaply at $1.00 – $10.00 stores who needs to buy someone else’s used things? #2 As previously mentioned many folks think they can get anywhere near ebay prices which caters to a country / world wide market. #3 There used to be a lot of browsers, window shoppers, snoopers all over Craigslist. NOT anymore, since they closed down the Casual Encounters section, 50%+ of the people no longer go on to look at the pictures and see their local action. Face it, most people went on there for laughs / entertainment / or actual hook-ups. They would migrate around the site and many times sell things or make deals buying things. Those people are gone…both males and females. There is no more worm on the hook. #4 As stated many things can be had inexpensively today, one can lease a car for $150.00 a month with no or little money down. Safe, clean, starts up every time, no dealing with repairs, etc, etc. The only people who buy used cars today are those with bad credit or no steady income. Different world it is from 15-20 years ago. Who needs to buy used stuff? Basically the people You don’t want to deal with….And #5, most importantly, the people selling the “good stuff.” Rare comics, Lionel trains, baseball cards, high end stereo equipment, muscle cars, etc. etc. Who wants it? Everyday the population of people who buy this good old stuff(they don’t make em like they used to crowd) is dying off and there is no one taking their place. Do you think kids, young adults, people under the age of 50 want a choo choo train that runs around a track? Do they want to read or collect comics or cards? How about cars, do they want that six pack charger? NO they have a cell phone and a nice pair of sneakers, lol. They want a BMW or a Benz not that half century old car that you think is the best thing since chocolate ice cream. Again, different world. I was talking to a friend about audio equipment and why that market is also shrinking at warp speed. Young people want personal electronics that take up little room, ipods, ipads, cell phones, etc. But the sound quality from those devices through headphones Is horrible he states…My answer is but there is no new music that you need audiophile equipment for. Do you need a Mark Levinson set-up for hip hop, rap, female vocalists? Because that’s really all you have today besides some obscure bands hanging in the shadows.
Soooo, selling / buying on Craigslist is a difficult option today. Unless you have something extremely desirable for a unbelievable price chances are your spinning your wheels. Also, the powers that be, the people who run the site have made it so difficult for regular people to post ads it’s not even worth it. There are both bots and workers flagging off legitimate ads. “flagging off” knocking off ads. There are people, companies posting literally hundreds of ads a week. Many the same ads over and over again and regular shmoes like myself can’t even get one or two ads a day to stick. They call us “spammers” mean while people post twenty ads all the same in a row or in different localities and their ads stick for weeks. And they do it virtually everyday. Was it Elmer Fud who used to say “something is awfully screwy here?” Since not many people are selling their wares at ebay prices on Craigslist, the wanted ads are over flowing. People are trying to buy from soup to nuts. So Craigslist ends up bouncing many of the Wanted ads because as far as I can see that’s the only part of the site that’s booming anymore. They don’t want “re-sellers.” Don’t worry Craig, soon there won’t be many of those anymore either since there are few places to sell used things besides ebay and that place is a total mess. Ebay wants the to be the place to buy NEW things like Amazon. How’s the hot dog sales working out at Burger King? lol. Same $#%, different smell. Ebay is for used stuff, end of story. Collectable market collapsing, ebay is becoming irrelevant as time moves on.
Can you buy or sell stuff on Craigslist, yes. Is it easy, NO. You have to deal with Craigslist who bounce your ads off for no apparent reason. You have the unfair competition of companies that post hundreds of ads which bury yours. You have people who think they can sell for ebay prices. There is less demand for vintage/antiques everyday that passes. There are many scammers on and no-good-nicks on CL. Many people don’t show up or follow through with the handshake deal, etc. etc. There are window shoppers and tire kickers who are there just to waste your time. The last guy I dealt with from Craigslist left a nice oil spot on my driveway with his 1980’s era van. Buying muriatic acid and a brush to clean up his mess cost me more in time, stress, and money then the whole deal was worth.
