I’m hearing it more and more from old timers and millennials alike ” turntables and records are back.” Yeah…I guess so, a little bit, it’s sorta cool, retro, vogue, etc. Guess what? Sorry to bust your bubble, records, turntables, cartridges, stylus, needles, record cleaners, etc. are NOT coming back. Yes, a slight resurgence and renewed popularity I would certainly agree. But…coming back? Not a chance. Just because companies produce a few retro items doesn’t mean technology is going to move backwards. Sorry folks, it ain’t happening. Again, I’m sorry to break it to you but turntables and records are now a novelty instead of a mainstay. Witness retro cars, Chargers, Challengers, Camaro’s, Mustangs, etc. Every company has an old time muscle car that they sell. Those new age muscle cars have nothing in common with their ancestors other then some cosmetic details and name plate badges. The electronics, motors, options, accessories, safety, emissions, handling, materials, etc. are all New Age. 1960’s cars are never coming back to your showroom other then in name and some styling cues. Same with old audio, stereo, hi fi equipment. Regardless of your hopes and desires technology moves forward especially in the electronics world. I just took a look at some New record albums. They seem to start at 30 bucks a pop, am I seeing things? lol, yeah right, little Joey is gonna buy a record for $30.00 when he can download it for free or pay next to nothing. So there are many reasons why 33 1/3’s and 45’s are NOT coming back. Resurgence in popularity, cool, fun, retro yes. That’s my take on it. Could I be wrong? Sure, but don’t bet on it.
