Welcome to the new world, it’s very difficult to get your vintage stereo repaired in 2018. There are still a few repair guys out there but they charge more then your units worth many times even for basic maintenance. It’s a no win situation. A good choice is buying a vintage component from ebay. Through paypal they offer a 180 day 6 month money back guarantee. Ebay is a great place for the buyer…not the seller. Not only stereo equipment is virtually all throw away but so are other electro-mechanical things. I spoke to a neighbor last week who had a transmission rebuilt, $2600.00…The whole car is not even worth 4 grand. To each his own as they say. He could of leased a brand new Hyundai for $150.00 a month with little money out of pocket. Had a new car with working air conditioning, etc, lol.

I get numerous calls per week, can you fix my 1977 Pioneer receiver or 1968 Gararrd turntable. Sure I can, but I won’t. Why not? Because I am married already and don’t need another wife calling me every week or two to fix their equipment. It’s always the same thing going wrong according to the customer. In truth, it’s always something else going wrong that they are trying to get fixed for free because you supposedly didn’t fix it the first time, lol. Sorry, not for me, for any $$$$.

So that’s the state of affairs, unless you have a little tinkering ability, or you have an old timer friend who is a ham radio operator and has some electronic background don’t even bother. Unless….you have an emotional attachment to a material thing and don’t mind getting ripped off. Other wise forget it….Good luck.
