A couple of weeks ago, me, Dave, Cashforstereos, or what ever name you would like to call me at this time received a phone call. One ringy dingy, two ringy dingy, three ringy dingy Dave picks up. Hi, saw your ad whatever and I have a Marantz to sell. Cool…what model is it? Model? Yes it’s stated on the front face plate and also on the back of the unit. Oh, a couple of minutes later, it’s a SR-1000. She says this is the best Marantz. Honestly, I usually don’t buy these “Fake Rolex” but what the hell. I offer the woman on the other end of the phone line $25.00. The SR-1000 looks ok but once you pick it up and examine it up close it is extremely underwhelming. You can lift the whole thing up using your pinky it’s so light and although it states “Marantz” on the front it feels like a K-Marance. I figured working they sell for approximately 50-100 bucks on the bay in working condition. I tell the lady on the phone I will be at her house to pick it up within a half hour. I didn’t get a good feeling from her voice. Very emotional, uneducated, and just out to lunch. Anyway, I get there she is a nervous wreck and I try to calm her down. There is some other overly confident lady with with her. I remove the speaker wires, antenna wire, and wrap up the power cord. Pay her the $25.00 and I am on my way. I get in my car and realize man…I made a bad deal here. Missing knobs, meter needles frozen half way across the meter, and cigarette tar plus what appeared to be blood and pus on the face plate, hahahhaha no kidding. Driving off I figured ok I donated to their cause since they seemed to be messed up and I have a helping heart. I get home and within 30 minutes I get a call from this sweetheart accusing me of ripping her off. Her friend with the “internet savy” saw it on ebay for 100 bucks. I was actually happy and told them to sit tight I will come back with their wanna be Marantz in a about thirty minutes. She says no no no! I just wanted to let you know I know how much this receiver is worth. I just wanted rid of the receiver and rid of these disgusting people. Finally she hangs up and says I DON’T WANT IT BACK. Man, I don’t even want this junk plus I don’t need a mental misfit thinking I ripped her off. Ok, let it go Dave. So I did. Fifteen minutes later she calls back and says she wants it back. I am not exaggerating, if anything I am playing down what actually happened. She is giving me some kind of weird story now a family member wants it and it belonged to so and so. I tell them I will be there in 30 minutes. Mean while we are having a tropical storm here in NYC. Seriously, the worst rainstorm I have ever witnessed in my 57 years. Doesn’t matter at this point, I jump into my jeep with the light weight Marantz and drive back to their home. Ring the bell they open the door. I put the receiver on their floor as soon as they open the door and turn to go back to my car. They are calling me…I have your 25 dollars. I tell them to keep it and tell them a little information is a dangerous thing. Keep the 25 bucks and I am out of here. A serious waste of my time dealing with screwballs that don’t know up from down. They must really feel great, they wasted a few of hours of my time, got the stereo back, and made 25 bucks for doing nothing. You see they were moving, the house was a mess. I asked where they were moving to and they said ” I don’t know.” The original caller made up this whole story about her big husband that didn’t exist and also a few other life inconsistencies. I am sure to this exact minute they don’t even understand what took place here. #1 they got over on me for $25.00 for their worthless broken low end receiver. #2 They burned a bridge. #3 One can see by their living environment and their behavior, they haven’t made many good decisions. #4 Highly uneducated they appeared to have undergone that new surgery, A cerebral bypass. Plus they had the emotional make up of a 5th grade girl who just broke up with her forever boyfriend, lol.
Yeah, that was a bad day for me. When I got home from bringing back their fake Rolex I found two inches of rain water in my downstairs. Out with the wet/dry vac for a few hours. I am just venting. The moral of the story, I am truly a nice person and gave them an exceptional price for a piece of junk. A worthless piece of crap, they were not smart enough to realize that asking prices on ebay don’t always equate to selling prices. You can buy this model all day long for $50.00 – 100 bucks in perfect working/cosmetic condition with 180 day money back guarantee no less. But still, they felt I took advantage of them by paying $25.00 for their train wreck. $25.00 would of been a good Cash price even if it was perfect. Oh and also, some of the wooden slats or vents were pushed in on the top of the paper thin wood cabinet. This wasn’t even a good parts rig, it was pure unadulterated junk. Plus I let them keep the $25.00 I paid them after delivering it back. Do you know why???? I figured if I brought that junk into my house and had to work on it I would of spent a few hours with just the obvious problems such as two frozen meters, finding close matching knobs, loosening up the tight rotary switch, cleaning off the blood stains off the front with strong cleaner, etc. Then there was most likely an electronic issue lurking about. So you see I would of had to waste many hours getting this unit up and running to where I could of sold it for maybe 50 bucks with the damaged cabinet and non-matching knobs. It was worth giving them my 25 bucks not ever see this thing again…And never to see or deal with these Kuckoo birds again. Even if I had to pay for the privilege. Sad but true!
