As I sit here and type I wish there was some good news to report about Music and the equipment that is used to reproduce it. Unfortunately, there isn’t. Life has really changed in the “2000’s.” Virtually all of your world is based around a gadget in your pocket or purse. Yes, there are some advantages, but looking out through my eyes I see mainly disadvantages. People use their smart phone to listen to music, store music, record music, etc. It’s about the worst medium to use to view a video or listen to your favorite tunes. I give it a POOR in all respects. Tinny, ugly noise is reproduced from this device. Even using headphones stinks. It’s called technology but not all technology benefits the masses. If you think about it why do we need quality music reproduction anymore? There is no articulate or quality music being produced. Do you really need a McIntosh amplifier to listen to hiphop/rap/or processed female vocalists. I mean that’s all that’s out there now, right? In the mainstream that is.

It’s not only music that is unrecognizable, it’s life in general. I live in a suburb of NYC, you don’t see kids on bicycles anymore, playing basketball, having a catch with their dad, etc. Where have all the kids gone? I’ll tell you where, they are on their computers and more their phones now. The adults are also on social media sites instead of having a good time doing anything substantial. Many times showing off the little they do or don’t have. Fighting with everyone willing to take the bait or telling everyone they are beautiful even if they are ugly enough to make an onion cry. Giving their uneducated opinions and meaningless life views for all to read. Children are professional gamers whatever that is. The country has become a cyber mess of fantasy, animosity, and an escape from reality. Why do we need music or nice sound systems anymore? We have a cell phone that takes the place of virtually every activity in a make believe world.

It’s not that I am getting old, I can still differentiate positive from negative, real from fantasy. Of course that GPS or NAV has made life better. You don’t have to ask the stranger in the street who doesn’t speak English for directions anymore, lol. The TV’s hang on the wall instead of taking up space with a large footprint. The cars don’t break or run like junk anymore, and are cheap enough where everyone can afford one, there are loads of positives. Unfortunately, there are many things that are suffering due to the technological age. Less jobs, poor eye-hand coordination as far as using tools or even holding a pencil, dealing with people and situations in the real world,  the list can go on for ever. But this post is supposed to be about music, equipment, musicians, etc. It’s all related, basically what I am stating is most people don’t do anything anymore that doesn’t directly or indirectly deal with the smart phone. And the smart phone has poor quality sound reproduction. It can never take the place of a real sound system. The cell phone for most people is…Entertainment, shopping, guidance, information, and sadly even sex.  Can you say….Pathetic? If you think I am wrong take a look at the people waiting on a bus stop in the morning going to work. At one time they used to talk to one another. Now Everyone waiting for the bus is looking down at their phone.  At this point in time I can honestly say many country/town people have a more complete/fulfilled life then the city-suburban folks who live and die by a plastic gadget in their pocket.
